Two-time Olympic champion and figure skating coach Evgeni Plushenko reacted to the comments made by Alexei Yagudin after his son, Alexander Plushenko, changed his sports citizenship from Russia to Azerbaijan.
Plushenko also expressed his gratitude to the entire sports world for supporting the young skater.
Idman.Biz reports that Russian Olympic champion Alexei Yagudin called Alexander Plushenko's move "normal practice" and noted that he would support him.
"This is the moment when Alexei Yagudin will support Plushenko! It was really important for me that the whole sports world supported my son. A sports career is short, difficult, and unpredictable.
It is already difficult to find or dig up dinosaurs like me who skated at the Olympics at the age of 31. I am very grateful to Lyosha and everyone who looks at this issue from a sports perspective and as an opportunity for a 13-year-old boy who is just starting his journey in elite sports," Plushenko wrote on his Telegram channel.
It was previously reported that the son of two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko had changed his sports citizenship and would represent Azerbaijan for the next five years.
