"Our preparation started 6-7 weeks ago. We started training 3 days after the end of the national championship. Our preparation continues to this day. We had training camps abroad, held test matches, and participated in an international tournament. Thank God, we have passed all the tests with our heads held high."
Sport24.az reports that these words were said by Vali Gafarov, the goalkeeper of the Azerbaijani national minifootball team.
He stated that they will go to the European Championship in Slovakia in 2 days to be the first:
"We are going to the European Championship as number 1 in the world ranking. Everyone will prepare differently against us. So will we. I hope that we will become European champions this time. The current state of the team gives reason to think so."
The experienced goalkeeper emphasized that they expect danger from all rivals in the continental championship: "After the last world championship held in Azerbaijan, each national team has paid more attention to itself. Teams like Italy and France, which we saw in the last European Championship, have improved a lot. We expect danger from all rivals."
V. Gafarov said that the Azerbaijan Minifootball Federation pays great attention to the team: "We had a meeting with the president of the Federation. Orkhan muallim (the president of the Azerbaijan Minifootball Federation, Orkhan Mammadov, is meant - ed.) said his heartfelt words and gave his recommendations. As far as I know, he will also watch the European Championship games live. In a word, the federation leadership is fully behind us with their support."
