Interview with Aghaseyid Gasimov, the goalkeeper of the Azerbaijani national team, winner of the World Minifootball Championship and the European Futsal Championship among universities, to AZERTAC
- After the World Minifootball Championship, you also experienced the joy of winning the European Championship. What are your impressions?
- This year was memorable and very emotional for me. After the success at the World Championship, achieving the next victory at the European level was important both in terms of motivation and responsibility. Every time I took the field, I played thinking that I represent not only myself, but also my Motherland. Seeing the name of Azerbaijan at the top, raising that flag is an indescribably magnificent feeling.
- We probably wouldn't be mistaken if we said that 2025 is the most successful year of your sports life?
- You are absolutely right. Some good results were achieved in previous years as well. But 2025 became a turning point in my career. The achievements we have achieved both individually and as a team made this year unforgettable for me.
- Which title is more valuable to you?
- Actually, both have their own place. The World Championship is a more global success and creates a different responsibility. Winning the European Championship, on the other hand, was a very difficult path for us that required serious determination. But for me, the most valuable thing in this process is the unity, friendship and team spirit we demonstrated.
- It is not easy to show maximum results in two tournaments of different formats. How did you manage this?
- It wasn't easy at all. However, behind every success lies determination, discipline and constant work on oneself. Our team worked towards only one goal. That was to win. The trust and support between us became our greatest weapon on this path.
- Moreover, you were chosen as the best goalkeeper of the European Championship...
- It's a very proud feeling. This is the result of the hard work of not only me, but the whole team. I also shared in this achievement and was fortunate enough to receive the award with the support of my teammates. Such individual awards motivate a person to work harder.
- How did the victories affect your social life? Considering that you are now more recognized…
- Yes, being recognized more than before is a different feeling. Especially the support of young people and their saying "we look at you and get inspired" is very valuable to me. This love and interest gives me additional responsibility, because I have become a role model for more people.
- We know that you have also tried yourself in big football, but your career has not been successful. What was the reason?
- I wouldn't say that my career was unsuccessful. At the age of 14, I had already signed a contract with the main team of "Qarabağ". I just had to leave big football due to some problems. That's how it was meant to be.
- Do you want to return to big football again?
- To be honest, I can't say anything about it. I have focused all my attention on minifootball.
