Zak Brown, CEO of the British McLaren team competing in Formula 1, has not ruled out the possibility of developing its own power units in the future.
Idman.Biz reports that Brown said this would only be possible if there is a financially viable engine regulation. The American functionary also emphasized that McLaren is completely satisfied with its cooperation with Mercedes.
"If a financially viable engine formula is presented, then yes, we will consider it and the technology. However, we couldn't be happier with our partnership with Mercedes. If we are presented with a financially sensible option first, we will explore it," Brown said.
McLaren has been using Mercedes power units since 2021. The team's contract with the German manufacturer is valid until 2030.
This season also saw the debut of a new engine developed by Red Bull Powertrains in conjunction with Ford. Brown said after February tests that the Red Bull-Ford engine looked both fast and reliable.
