"Mercedes" driver Kimi Antonelli achieved a historic victory at the Miami Grand Prix of the Formula 1 World Championship. Despite facing difficulties in the race, which he started from pole position, the young driver managed to cross the finish line first.
İdman.Biz reports that Antonelli, who lost his lead at the start to Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen, later rose to second place after Verstappen went off the track. During the race, the driver, who had a tense battle with Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris, regained the lead thanks to the team's timely pit stop decision.
The early "undercut" strategy applied by "Mercedes" (Based on entering the pit stop earlier than the opponent. The driver switches to new tires faster than the opponent moving on worn tires) allowed the Italian to overtake Norris and move into the lead, passing Max Verstappen.
With this victory, Kimi Antonelli set a unique record in the history of "Formula 1". He became the first driver to finish each of his first three pole positions with a victory. With his teammate George Russell finishing the race in fourth place, Antonelli increased his points and strengthened his lead in the drivers' standings with a 20-point advantage.
Sharing his impressions after the victory, Antonelli emphasized that the team's strategy was decisive:
"The team set up a great strategy and we secured the victory thanks to a great "undercut". This is just the beginning, there is a long way ahead. Now I will enjoy the joy of this victory, and then I will prepare for the Canadian Grand Prix, which will be held in three weeks".
