"Real Madrid" is demanding that six Premier League clubs pay a portion of the costs incurred for the creation of the European Super League project.
Idman.Biz reports, citing "The Athletic", that the Madrid representative believes "Arsenal", "Chelsea", "Liverpool", "Manchester City", "Manchester United", and "Tottenham" are still responsible for the financial obligations of the project.
Nine out of the 12 founding clubs of the European Super League, announced in April 2021, withdrew from the project within a few days. Along with the six English representatives, "Atletico", "Milan", and "Inter" also took this step. "Juventus" left the project in 2023, and "Barcelona" in February 2026.
It is reported that the total expenses for the preparation and promotion of the Super League could reach €80 million. So far, these costs have been covered by "Real Madrid", "Barcelona", and "Juventus".
According to the position of the Madrid club, the withdrawal of the English representatives from the project does not relieve them of their initial financial obligations. "Real Madrid" bases its argument on the agreement signed among the founding clubs regarding joint ownership and management of the project.
The English clubs, however, do not agree with this position. They believe that after leaving the Super League and publicly apologizing, all their obligations have been completed.
