Paolo Maldini, considered one of the living legends of Italian football, is being considered as a possible candidate for the presidency of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). According to Sport24.az, the previous president of the federation was Gabriele Gravina, who voluntarily resigned.
The new presidential election will take place on June 22, and candidates are required to register officially 40 days before the vote.
Maldini previously worked in the national team: in 2018-2019 he worked as the team's development director, and later as the technical director. He left this position in June 2023.
The Italian national team failed to qualify for the World Cup after losing to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the play-off stage (1:1, 1:4 on penalties).
