Indian police have arrested the organizer of an event attended by Argentina and Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi after riots at the stadium in Kolkata.
İdman.Biz reports on this with reference to the Press Trust of India (PTI) agency.
Earlier, the 38-year-old Argentine flew to India for the opening of his 20-meter statue. Although he visited the "Salt Lake" stadium in Kolkata, he left the field 20 minutes after the event started. Fans were unhappy with Messi's short visit and created chaos in the stadium.
"We are investigating whether the organizer committed any violations of the law that caused the chaos in the stadium. He has been detained and the police have taken control of the situation," said Rajiv Kumar, head of the West Bengal Police.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF), in turn, said that the event attended by Messi in Kolkata was organized by a public relations agency, and the federation had no involvement in its organization.
Messi arrived in India with his Inter Miami teammates Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul. The players will then travel to the cities of Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi.
