Portuguese football expert Jose Mourinho stated that the Iranian national team should participate in the 2026 World Cup.
Idman.Biz reports that the coach, who currently manages Portugal's Benfica, emphasized that football and politics are different concepts.
"Sport and politics are different things. Iranian footballers who qualified for the World Cup deserve to be a part of this tournament," said Mourinho.
Earlier, there were reports in the press that the Iranian national team might withdraw from the World Cup due to political tensions with the United States.
It should be noted that the 2026 World Cup will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. The Iranian national team will face Belgium, Egypt and New Zealand in the group stage.
