Former head coach of the Romanian national team, Mircea Lucescu, has been re-hospitalized in the intensive care unit.
"Report" reports, citing GSP, that the 80-year-old specialist suffered an acute myocardial infarction on Friday morning.
According to reports, the experienced coach is suspected of having suffered a second heart attack a few hours later. Three resuscitation operations were required to stabilize Lucescu's condition. Doctors performed an angiography procedure to check for blockage of the coronary arteries. Although doctors were able to save the specialist's life, he is currently in critical condition in the department intended for the treatment of patients suffering from cardiovascular diseases.
It is worth recalling that the coach was also urgently hospitalized on March 29. His condition deteriorated on the eve of the flight to Slovakia, during a technical meeting before the final training session. On April 2, Lucescu resigned from his post as head coach of the Romanian national team.
M. Lucescu's health problems began to worsen at the end of 2025. At the end of January, he had to stay in the hospital for several more days due to a severe cold that aggravated his heart problems.
It should be noted that the Romanian specialist with a rich coaching career has managed teams such as Inter, Pisa, Brescia in Italy, Galatasaray, Besiktas in Turkey, Dynamo (Kyiv) and Shakhtar (Donetsk) in Ukraine. He had been coaching the Romanian national team since 2024.
