Former head coach of the Romanian national team, Mircea Lucescu, has been placed in an artificial coma.
İdman.Biz reports, citing "Digi Sport," that this was announced by the director of the Romanian Football Federation, Mihai Stoichiță. With the permission of the doctors, he visited the experienced specialist in the ward for a few minutes and left the hospital in a shaken state.
"Unfortunately, I have no good news. I only stayed with him for five minutes. He doesn't react to what's happening. Let's hope everything will be fine. He can't speak, he's in an artificial coma. I just looked at him and I have nothing more to say. I don't want to talk anymore so as not to say something wrong," Stoichiță said.
It was previously reported that the 80-year-old specialist was not responding to treatment and had been transferred to the intensive care unit. A few days ago, Lucescu, who lost consciousness during a training session of the Romanian national team, was admitted to one of the Bucharest hospitals with a diagnosis of a heart attack.
It should be noted that under his leadership, the Romanian national team lost to Turkey with a minimal score (0:1) in the play-off stage of the 2026 World Cup and remained outside the world championship.
