The football world has been shaken by the news of the death of Mircea Lucescu, one of the most successful coaches in history. Affectionately called "Mister" by players and fans, he passed away, leaving behind a legacy that will always be valued.

Playing career
Mircea Lucescu began his football career in 1963 playing for Dinamo Bucharest. He later played for Știintsa Bucharest and Corvinul Hunedoara, winning 7 league titles and 1 Romanian Cup during his club career. He also made 70 appearances for the Romanian national team, scoring 9 goals.
Coaching career
Lucescu began his coaching career in 1982 as a player-coach at Corvinul Hunedoara and managed the Romanian national team. Throughout his career, he has managed many well-known clubs, including Dinamo Bucharest, Pisa, Brescia, Reggiana, Rapid Bucharest, Inter, Galatasaray, Besiktas, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit, the Turkish national team and Dinamo Kyiv. His last position was with the Romanian national team from August 2024 to March 2026.
A career full of trophies
With a total of 35 trophies in a coaching career spanning more than 40 years, Lucescu is third among the most successful coaches in football history. He is only behind Sir Alex Ferguson and Pep Guardiola in this regard.
Lucescu achieved his greatest successes with Shakhtar, winning 8 league titles, 7 Ukrainian Cups, 7 Super Cups and the UEFA Cup in the 2008/2009 season with the Ukrainian team.

Family life
Married to Neli Lucescu since 1967, Mircea Lucescu has only one child. Razvan Lucescu followed in his father's footsteps and built a coaching career, especially known for his success at PAOK.
The death of Mircea Lucescu, known in the football world as "Il Luce", has caused deep sadness not only in Romania, but also in European and Turkish football.
