The season in the Spanish La Liga is coming to an end, and although the champion is already known, the last round still promises serious competition.
Idman.Biz reports that before the 38th round, two main questions remain open: which team will win the bronze medal of the championship and which clubs will be in the last three places and leave La Liga.
"Barcelona" secured the championship ahead of schedule, "Real Madrid" will finish the season in second place, and the fate of the third place will be decided in a personal meeting between "Villarreal" and "Atletico Madrid". In the lower part of the tournament table, "Real Oviedo" has already dropped out of the elite, while "Girona", "Mallorca", "Elche", "Osasuna" and "Levante" continue to fight to stay in the Premier League.
"Villarreal" – "Atletico Madrid"
The main match for the bronze medals will be held at the "La Ceramica" stadium. "Villarreal" and "Atletico Madrid" approach the last round with the same number of points – 69 points. The winner of this pair will finish the season in third place. A draw is enough for the Madrid representative, because they defeated "Villarreal" 2:0 in the first round.
"Villarreal" made their situation difficult by losing to "Rayo Vallecano" 0:2 in the previous round. "Atletico Madrid", on the contrary, comes to the decisive match after a minimal victory over "Girona" – 1:0.
This match is also of particular importance for the Madrid club from an emotional point of view. Thus, Antoine Griezmann is playing his last matches for the team. He said goodbye to the fans in the home stadium in the previous round and will play his last game for "Atletico" at "La Ceramica".
In the current season, both teams have already secured a place in the Champions League. However, third place is important in terms of prestige, status and final evaluation of the season.
"Girona" – "Elche"
The match at the "Montilivi" stadium will be one of the main games of the round for staying in the elite. "Elche" is in 17th place with 42 points, and "Girona" is in 18th place with 40 points. The situation is completely clear for the Catalan representative – the team only needs a victory. Any other result will not take "Girona" out of the relegation zone.
Although a draw will satisfy "Elche", Eder Sarabia's team cannot feel comfortable. The club is distinguished by unsuccessful statistics in away games, and the match will be held in front of fully packed stands.
In addition, "Elche" will come to the decisive match with news related to the squad. Aleix Febas and Petro are returning to the squad after disqualification. Adam Boayar and Yago Santiago are injured. Head coach Eder Sarabia himself will not be in the technical zone either, as he continues to serve his sentence due to disqualification.
"Girona", on the other hand, has mobilized its fans before the decisive game. The club announced that tickets for the match with "Elche" were completely sold out, and the meeting was given a high-risk status.
