Ecuador midfielder Moises Caicedo and Argentina defender Nicolas Otamendi will be eligible to play in the first round of the 2026 World Cup, despite being sent off in their last qualifying matches. Sport24.az reports that this was reported by ESPN.
Ecuador defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final round of the WC-2026 qualifiers last September. Otamendi and Caicedo were sent off in that match. Therefore, both players were not supposed to appear in the first round of the World Cup.
According to the source, FIFA has lifted the ban so that all teams can field their strongest squads. The suspension for both players will apply to their next official international match after the World Cup.
