Cesс Fàbregas, head coach of Italian club Como, commented on his team's qualification for the Champions League.
Idman.Biz reports that the victory over Cremonese in the final round of Serie A allowed Como to finish the season in 4th place.
Fàbregas stated that he had set a specific goal for his players in advance:
"Before the game with Parma, I told the kids that we only needed two wins to get into the Champions League. I showed the team a video about a cyclist. He started the race in sixth place, but overtook everyone and won. Our goal was to take an example from him, and we succeeded."
The Spanish specialist called the result a great success:
"This is a great achievement for a very young team. We have a lot of players under 23 years old. The club president gave me full authority. I had to make a lot of decisions, I had to make choices often."
Fàbregas also spoke about the path the club has taken in recent years:
"Four years ago, when I came here as a player, our dressing room was a bar. And now we are in the Champions League. I was talking to two physiotherapists, we remembered how we trained - we didn't even have a sports base, I don't even remember where we worked. The massages were done in the bar, on the field. Everyone left at 12 or 12:30, no one stayed. And now we are fourth in Serie A. I am very happy with what we have achieved."
It should be noted that Como left Serie A in 2003. The club returned to the elite after more than 21 years and finished 10th in its first season.
