Recently, referee scandals in the Misli Premier League have become one of the most discussed topics in Azerbaijani football.
International referee-inspector Asim Khudiyev shared his views on the current situation with Idman.Biz.
He stated that most Azerbaijani referees are still in the development stage and are gaining experience during a busy season:
"Although we have experienced referees, the main burden falls more on the younger generation. As in any field, mistakes happen here too. Azerbaijani referees try to minimize mistakes as they gain experience. I think they understand everything and work on themselves. I am sure that by the end of the season, the referees will be more attentive and objective, and the clubs' dissatisfaction will decrease. This season, the competition in the championship is quite intense. Several teams are fighting for qualification for European cups. In such matches, it is important for referees to make the most attentive and fair decisions. I wish our referees success in the decisive stage of the championship."
Asim Khudiyev added that controversial referee decisions occur not only in Azerbaijan, but all over the world, including the Champions League and FIFA tournaments.
He emphasized that Azerbaijani referees have managed a number of matches at a high level, such as "Qarabag" - "Neftchi", "Sabah" - "Qarabag" and "Zira" - "Kapaz".
According to the experienced specialist, there is no significant difference between the level of refereeing in different leagues of Azerbaijani football.
He stated that the main difference is felt in the playing level of the clubs and these indicators could be higher:
"Of course, the main surprise of this season was "Sabah". The team achieved the best result in the club's history and we congratulate them on this success. "Zira" and "Turan Tovuz" are also among the main teams fighting for high places. I think the next season will be more interesting, because other clubs have also felt what competition means."
