At today's Reporting Conference of AFFA, the organization's president Rovshan Najaf clarified the discussions regarding increasing the number of clubs participating in the national championship.
Idman.Biz reports that the head of the association emphasized that this step directly depends on the level of preparation and infrastructure capabilities of potential candidates.
According to him, increasing the number of teams is always on the agenda, but the main criteria are quality and competitiveness:
"Increasing the number of teams is a subject of discussion. We must properly assess which clubs can potentially perform and their infrastructure. Our goal is to fully resolve the stadium issue for all clubs that will compete in the championship."
Rovshan Najaf noted that when making decisions, preference will be given to sustainable development, not artificial growth:
"It should not be that some clubs are given concessions for the sake of increasing numbers, and this disrupts the overall balance. We are trying to increase both the sustainability of football and the efficiency of infrastructure. This is a very delicate balance."
The President noted that this issue is on the agenda of the Executive Committee and that relevant decisions will be made at one of the next meetings of the organization.
