Former "Chelsea" owner Roman Abramovich has created a new charity fund to take ownership of the proceeds from the sale of the London club. Sport24.az reports that this was reported by "The Athletic".
According to the source, £2.35 billion from the sale of "Chelsea" in 2022 remains in a frozen bank account. Abramovich and the British government cannot agree on the fate of these funds. The Russian oligarch insists on supporting all those affected by the ongoing military conflict. The government wants all the money to be transferred to Ukraine.
Last weekend, the UK Charity Commission received an application to create a charity fund called the "Victims of Conflict Fund".
According to the source, its directors include high-ranking and influential diplomats. The fund itself is linked to Abramovich.
The application has not yet been approved. In addition, there is no guarantee that the government will agree to lift the freeze on funds and transfer them to the fund.
