Khagan Ahmad has even greater victories ahead in chess.
Idman.Biz reports that this was stated in an interview with "Report" by Rasul Ibrahimov, the coach of Azerbaijani teenager chess player Khagan Ahmad, who won the European Championship in Montenegro in the category of 14-year-old boys.
He noted that Kh. Ahmad prepared well for the European Championship: "Even the day before the tournament, he said that he did not want to play in the 14-year-old category, he believed that he could win in the 16-year-old category as well. To be honest, it was surprising for us to hear Khagan say this the day before the tournament. However, we were able to convince him that it would be more correct to play in the 14-year-old category and take first place.
It was a bit risky for him to play in the 16 or 18 year old category. Because he might not be able to take first place. Khagan agreed with us and played in his age category."
The coach noted that Kh. Ahmad's games with Armenian and Ukrainian chess players were intense: "But Khagan showed will and determination in the main games and was able to take maximum advantage of favorable situations."
According to the coach, the young athlete may participate in the world championship among chess players under 15 years old in Antalya on December 15-21: "I believe that Khagan Ahmad's great victories are ahead. He has all the potential to be a top player. But he also has shortcomings. If he eliminates them, I hope that he will successfully represent Azerbaijan in the national team.
R. Ibrahimov said that he expected greater results from Azerbaijani junior chess players at the European Championship: "If a few of our chess players had won in the last round, they could have won medals. But overall, they performed satisfactorily."
It should be noted that Azerbaijani junior chess players won 3 medals at the European Championship. In the competition for 10-year-old girls, Mehriban Ahmadli scored 7.5 points in 9 rounds and was awarded a silver medal. In the championship for 16-year-old girls, Maryam Aghaverdiyeva won a bronze medal at the European Championship with 7 points in 9 games.
Azerbaijan, which won 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal, took 5th place among 48 countries in the team standings.
