The reason why the result in the match, which was a qualifying match for the World Championship, was not in favor of the Azerbaijani national team is that the team members did not properly assess their chances.
This was stated to "Report" by team member Gunay Mammadzada.
The 25-year-old grandmaster spoke about the match they lost to Uzbekistan: "Due to maternity leave, I had been away from professional chess for a while. Unfortunately, for this reason, I could not participate in the European Championship as part of our national team. However, during my leave, I continued my training and online games to not lose my form."
G. Mammadzada said that all meetings with this opponent took place in a tense struggle:
"This match was also preparatory in nature for me for major tournaments after a long break. If we pay attention to my first three games, we will see that there were winning situations. But, unfortunately, the break in my practice prevented me from turning winning situations into victories. This tournament was also a chance for me to restore my form and assess the gaps. In general, I don't evaluate the games of our national team badly. The fact that the result was not in our favor was due to our inability to properly assess our chances. In particular, we were very close to winning the last match to equalize the overall situation. But, unfortunately, luck doesn't always smile in sports. This time, luck was on Uzbekistan's side. Such results do not discourage us, on the contrary, they give us additional motivation. I hope that we will show our best game at the Olympics to be held in Uzbekistan next year."
It should be noted that the Uzbekistan national team defeated the Azerbaijani national team with a final score of 8.5:7.5.
