Azerbaijani boxers, represented by seven athletes at the Islamic Solidarity Games, won six medals in Riyadh - one gold, three silver and two bronze.
To what extent can such a result be considered satisfactory, and what are the prospects of local boxers in higher-level competitions?
With this question, Idman.Biz addressed Rovshan Huseynov, European champion, a well-known Azerbaijani boxer of the recent past and currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Boxing Federation:
"Of course, if we compare the number of our boxers participating in the Islamic Solidarity Games with the number of medals, the result can be considered satisfactory - after all, six out of our seven boxers, including three female athletes, won medals. But if we take the quality of the fights as a basis, only Sarkhan Aliyev pleasantly surprised me - he was simply not allowed to reach the final. Also, the winner of the tournament, Saidjamshid Jafarov, showed good boxing. I think they are capable of greater results, especially of becoming world champions in the near future," said Rovshan Huseynov.
