Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk defeated Rico Verhoeven of the Netherlands in a fight for the WBC heavyweight belt.
Idman.Biz reports that the match, held in Giza, Egypt, ended in the 11th round. Referee Mark Layson stopped the fight in the final seconds of the round and recorded Usyk's victory by TKO.
With this victory, the 39-year-old Ukrainian boxer won his 25th victory in 25 fights in the professional ring. He has 16 knockouts to his credit. Usyk is the holder of the WBC, WBA, and IBF belts.
For 37-year-old Verhoeven, this was only his second fight in professional boxing. The Dutch athlete is better known for his kickboxing career. Although his activity at the beginning of the fight created serious difficulties for Usyk, the Ukrainian boxer gained the upper hand in the final rounds.
It should be noted that Usyk last entered the ring on July 19, 2025, in London before the fight with Verhoeven. In the rematch, he knocked out British Daniel Dubois in the fifth round.
