Khabib Nurmagomedov, the 37-year-old UFC Hall of Famer and former UFC lightweight champion, spoke about the preparations of the new two-division UFC champion Islam Makhachev for the title fight against Australian Jack Della Maddalena.
Idman.Biz reports that Islam won the welterweight title by unanimous decision.
"The last three months weren't easy," Nurmagomedov wrote on his social media page.
This was Islam's first fight in this division. This victory is the Russian fighter's sixth consecutive title fight. His streak began on October 22, 2022.
Recall that Nurmagomedov's last fight was on October 24, 2020, at UFC 254 on Yas Island near Abu Dhabi, UAE. His opponent was American Justin Gaethje, the interim UFC lightweight champion. The fight ended with the Russian athlete winning by submission in the second round. This was Nurmagomedov's 29th victory in his career. After the fight, Khabib announced his retirement from MMA.
