Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov believes that the biggest fight in the UFC right now could be between his compatriot Islam Makhachev and current lightweight titleholder Ilia Topuria.
"I think Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria is the biggest fight right now. Not Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira - of course, it's a big fight, but not on that level," Idman.Biz quotes Nurmagomedov as saying.
In his next fight, Makhachev will face Australian Jack Della Maddalena. This will be Makhachev's debut in the welterweight division. The fight will take place on November 16 in New York, USA, at UFC 322. In his last fight, he defeated Renato Moicano.
Ilia Topuria is 28 years old. The Georgian-born fighter has been competing in the UFC since 2020. In February 2024, at UFC 298, he became the featherweight champion (up to 65 kg) by knocking out Australian Alex Volkanovski. In his most recent fight at UFC 317 in June, he won the lightweight title by knocking out Brazilian Charles Oliveira.
