Islam Makhachev: Baku deserves to host UFC tournaments

"Baku has long deserved to host UFC tournaments."

Idman.biz reports that these words were said by the famous UFC champion Islam Makhachev in an interview with Haqqin.az.

Currently, the Russian athlete, considered the strongest fighter in the world in the UFC, regardless of weight class, was among those watching the matches of the World Judo Championship held in Budapest.

Makhachev said that he will soon come to our country in connection with the UFC tournament to be held on June 21: "I will come to Baku on June 19. Khabib Nurmagomedov and I will be there to support our teammate Tagir Ulanbekov. I hope he wins.

I am very happy that the UFC tournament will be held in Baku. The capital of Azerbaijan is a very beautiful and good city. Baku has long deserved to host UFC fights, including numbered tournaments. I hope that numbered tournaments will also be held in Baku in the future. In this case, it will be easier for us to come to Azerbaijan and fight there."

Let us remind you that an intermediate UFC tournament - "UFC Fight Night" will be held in Baku for now. The main difference between numbered tournaments and "Fight Night" is their level and scale. Numbered tournaments are the main events of the UFC, where the most famous fighters and champions in various weight classes participate. These events are organized once a month. "UFC Fight Night" are smaller tournaments and are usually held between numbered competitions.

It should be noted that Islam Makhachev had his last fight in January of this year with the Brazilian Renato Moycano and won. The Dagestani fighter has 27 wins (16 of them in the UFC) and only 1 loss in mixed martial arts (MMA) - he received it almost 10 years ago - in 2015. Makhachev gave up the UFC lightweight title and moved to welterweight (77 kg).
