Azerbaijani boxer Amina Taghi was specially prepared to defeat her Armenian opponent in the final of the European Championship among juniors held in Novi Pazar, Serbia.
This was stated by the head coach of the Azerbaijani national boxing team for youth, juniors and women, Ilkin Agayev, in an interview with "Report".
He also emphasized that some boxers did not show themselves in a good light:
"We spent the first stage of preparation for the European Championship in Shaki. Then we continued with technical and tactical training at the Baku Boxing Center. Everything was fine in the team. The children showed themselves well in training and believed in themselves. Amina Taghi defeated the Armenian boxer in the final. Her opponent was a two-time European champion. We really believed that Amina would win. She was also well prepared for this fight. During our conversation before the fight, she said that she was specially prepared to defeat the Armenian boxer. Thank God, she did what she wanted. Of course, again, some boxers did not show themselves in a good light. In the next competitions, we will try to ensure that our other boxers also win gold medals."
It should be noted that our team finished the European Championship with 1 gold, 4 silver and 8 bronze medals.
Amina Taghi (50 kg) won the title of European champion. Jamila Muradli (52 kg), Fidan Bakarova (63 kg), Sama Abbasova (66 kg) won silver medals, and Gardash Rahimov (46 kg), Muhammad Rasulov (50 kg), Raul Heydarli (54 kg), Shahin Aslanov (60 kg), Hagverdi Hasanov (63 kg), Aylin Nazarova (46 kg), Gular Huseynova (48 kg) and Zahra Mammadova (54 kg) won bronze medals.
