The views of Rovshan Huseynov, a member of the Executive Committee of the Azerbaijan Boxing Federation, regarding the existence of boxers in our country who can become world champions, have not been unequivocally received by the local boxing community opinions.
According to Idman.Biz, well-known former boxer, 2005 World Runner-up Elchin Alizade thinks completely differently. He said:
"Unfortunately, although I have great respect for our athletes and Huseynov personally, today we must admit the situation: we do not have a local boxer who can become not only a world champion, but even a European champion. There is no need to praise ourselves. We only have one or two legionnaires who can do it, that's it. Moreover, Russian athletes, who dominated world boxing until a few years ago, are not allowed to compete, and Ukrainians are not as strong as before. Therefore, let's not deceive ourselves - we do not yet have local boxers at the level of Aghasi Mammadov (world champion - ed.) or Rovshan Huseynov (European champion - ed.), nor is it expected that there will be one in the near future."
