Former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington has filed a lawsuit against his fellow American Jorge Masvidal over an incident that occurred in 2022.
Idman.Biz reports on this with reference to the "Times of India" publication.
According to court documents, the lawsuit was filed on March 23. Covington is seeking more than $50,000 in damages, excluding interest, legal fees, and attorney's fees. The two fighters previously met on March 5, 2022, at a UFC event in Las Vegas, with Covington winning by decision.
The plaintiff claims that Masvidal threatened him in an interview after the defeat and then attacked Covington on March 21, 2022, in front of a restaurant in Miami Beach. As a result of the incident, Covington suffered a brain injury and damage to his Rolex watch worth approximately $15,000.
Documents show that Masvidal pleaded guilty to battery and was sentenced to two days in jail. Covington also claims he incurred medical expenses, lost income, and suffered a decline in his health.
The American is requesting a jury trial.
