The 28th European Fudokan Karate Championship among adults, as well as the European Championship among children, adolescents and youth, was held in Sfantu George, Romania.
Idman.Biz reports that the Azerbaijani team performed at the competition under the leadership of Vusal Abdullazade, the representative of the Fudokan karate style, and Bashir Mahmudov, the head coach of the style.
In the tournament, Babek Qalamzadeh won the title of European champion by defeating all his rivals in the absolute weight category among adults in individual kumite.
In the European Championship, Elmir Kazımzade (10-11 years old, 40 kg), Qorxmaz Safarli (14-15 years old, 65 kg), Ravan Shirinov (16-17 years old, 65 kg), Elton Aliyev (16-17 years old, 75 kg), Mehdi Abdullayev (16-17 years old, +75 kg) and Tahir Alakbarov (U-21, +75 kg) took first place.
Ayxan Pirquluyev (16-17 years old, 65 kg) took third place, and Ali Hajiyev (U-21, 75 kg) took second place.
It should be noted that 985 athletes from 22 European countries participated in the competition.
