Azerbaijani athletes continue their successful performance at the U-17 European Beach Wrestling Championship.
Idman.Biz reports that three members of the national team have reached the finals. Eljan Hasanov, Rashad Aliyev, and Elvin Hajiguliyev defeated their opponents consecutively and qualified for the decisive match.
In the 60 kg weight category, Eljan Hasanov initially defeated his compatriot Alirza Heybatli with a score of 2:1 in the group stage. He then defeated Serbian Nikola Petrović 3:0 and Greek Ioannis Kesidis 4:1. Hasanov advanced to the semi-finals by defeating Moldovan Viktor Vdovin 3:0 in the next stage. On the way to the final, he won against Ukrainian Denis Vitko with a score of 3:0.
Alirza Heybatli, who also competed in this weight, also achieved two victories in the group. He defeated Ioannis Kesidis 4:1 and Nikola Petrović 3:0. However, he lost to Georgian Tariel Saatashvili 1:3 in the 1/4 finals.
Rashad Aliyev drew attention with his brilliant performance in the 70 kg category. He initially defeated Georgian Zuka Tsinamdzgvrişvili with a score of 3:2. He then defeated Serbian Andrey Rajacic 5:0, Moldovan Pavel Mavrodi 3:1, and Romanian Ishtvan Nagi 3:1. Aliyev advanced to the semi-finals by defeating Ukrainian Nazar Mudri 3:0. On the way to the decisive stage, he defeated Ukrainian representative Mikita Kuzmenko with a score of 3:1.
In the 80 kg category, Elvin Hajiguliyev also confidently held all his matches. In the group, he defeated Moldovan Laurentsiu Drobot 3:0, Maxim Deleu 3:0, and Georgian Saba Zoidze 3:0. Hajiguliyev then advanced to the final by winning 4:0 against Ukrainian Vladislav Martsev.
Ruslan Valiyev also performed successfully in the same weight. He defeated Georgian Luka Maysuradze 3:0, Croatian Emanuel Grgica 3:0, and Ukrainian Dmitro Holovenko 4:0 in the third round.
Tural Eynullayev and Mohlat Gasimov competed in the 90 kg category. Eynullayev defeated Georgian Saba Papashvili 3:2 and Ukrainian Matviy Grihorenko 3:0, but lost to Ukrainian Artem Zalvovskiy 0:3.
Mohlat Gasimov defeated Greek Dimitrios Dermendzis 4:2, and Andreas Kteniadakis 3:0 in the third round. He lost 0:4 in the second round against Moldovan Evgen Dohoter.
Thus, the Azerbaijani national team maintains its chances for medals with three finalists at the U-17 European Championship. Eljan Hasanov, Rashad Aliyev, and Elvin Hajiguliyev will compete for the gold medal.
