Success of Azerbaijani wrestlers at the U-17 World Championship: Two finals, two chances for a bronze medal

Two Azerbaijani wrestlers have reached the final at the U-17 World Championship held in Athens, the capital of Greece.

"Report" reports that Hikmat Hagverdiyev (51 kg), one of our Greco-Roman wrestlers, won a confident victory over Romanian Andrei Pelean in his debut - 7:0.

Our compatriot then gave no chance to Norwegian Abu Bakar Saga - 9:2. Hikmat also emerged victorious from the match against Kyrgyz Islam Kurbanov in the semi-finals, which took place in a tense struggle - 4:3. Hagverdiyev's opponent in the final will be Otabek Tursunov from Uzbekistan.

Ali Nazarov (60 kg) showed his strength to Croatian Roko Kuric in the first stage - 5:1. Our wrestler sent Georgian Lazare Gogotishvili (10:1) and Uzbek Humoyun Erkinov (9:0) off the mat disappointed ahead of time. Ali defeated Iranian Abulfazl Eshaghini in the semi-finals based on the first point principle (1:1). Nazarov will fight against Kyrgyz Amangeldi Ysakbayev for the gold medal tomorrow.

Abdurrahman Huseynli (45 kg) eliminated American Tales Silva (6:3) and Georgian Saba Abashidze (9:6) from the competition. Our European champion failed to cope with Kyrgyz Nurkerim Kumarbekov in the semi-finals - 0:7. Abdurrahman will wrestle tomorrow for the bronze medal against the winner of the match between Mustafa Guven (Turkey) - Timur Maharramov (Ukraine).

Yusif Ahmadli (71 kg) won with a full advantage (8:0) over Turkish Emirhan Chakir at the start. Our wrestler also eliminated Georgian Giorgi Gogelashvili (7:2) and Tajik Alisher Ruzimadov (9:5) from the competition. Yusif was also close to reaching the final. Ahmadli, who took the lead with a 5-point difference in the match against Uzbek Bahruzbek Veliyev, lost the initiative in the second half and lost - 5:9. The opponent of the national team member in the bronze medal match will be Mohammad Kazemi (Iran), Matias Onnenlehto (Finland) or Radoslav Peryanski (Bulgaria).

Said Pashayev (92 kg) lost to Iranian Amirsam Mohammadi 1:6 in the 1/8 finals. Since his opponent reached the final, Pashayev will compete in a consolation match tomorrow. Our compatriot will face Moldovan Vladislav Vasilevski.
