"The competition was very difficult for me." Sport24.az reports that this was stated to Offsideplus.az by Ruzanna Mammadova (62 kg), a wrestler of the Azerbaijani U-20 national team.
Evaluating her performance at the U-20 European Championship held in Kaorle, Italy, the athlete said that it was not easy to win the gold medal: "I suffered a very serious injury during the training camp in Turkey before the competition. I almost had to remain motionless for a while. That injury set me back a lot, otherwise I could have wrestled better. Moreover, I got sick after coming to Italy. I wrestled with a fever of 39 degrees until the semi-finals. My most difficult match was against Russian Ekaterina Radysheva in the semi-finals. The main thing is that I won. I am satisfied with the result I achieved."
Mammadova also spoke about her next goals: "My next goal is to become a world champion among young people. The most important thing is to win a ticket to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and represent our country there properly. The results I have achieved today are part of the road to the Olympics."
It should be noted that Ruzanna Mammadova became the European champion among young people for the second time in a row.
