European freestyle wrestling champion Islam Bazarqanov (57 kg) shared his impressions of the victory. Sport24.az reports that the gold medalist said the following in a statement to the Wrestling Federation's press service:
"I still can't believe I'm the champion. I can't express my feelings in words. This was a very important match for me. I lost to Musa Mekhtikhanov at the World Championships. His wrestling style didn't suit me. It was difficult to focus. Thank God I was able to win.
I thank the coaching staff and the leadership of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation. All conditions were created to prepare for this competition at a high level. We had tough training camps in Kislovodsk and Baku. We saw the benefits of all this in the competition."
