The European Championship held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, ended with a magnificent victory for the Azerbaijani freestyle wrestling team. Our national team won three gold, two silver and one bronze medals in the competition, scoring a total of 152 points and winning the title of European champion for the sixth time.
Idman.Biz reports that our team took first place with a great advantage, 58 points ahead of its closest follower, Georgia. Armenia took third place in the tournament with 73 points.
With these performances in Albania, our wrestlers broke the record of the last 17 years in terms of the quality of medals. This is the highest figure recorded in continental championships since 2009.
Our athletes who won medals in the competition:
Gold: Islam Bazarqanov (57 kg), Ali Tsokayev (92 kg), Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg);
Silver: Turan Bayramov (74 kg), Arseniy Djioyev (86 kg);
Bronze: Jabrayil Hajiyev (79 kg).
