The European Championship held in Tirana, the capital of Albania, has come to an end.
Lent.az reports that, following the Greco-Roman wrestling team, our freestyle wrestling team has conquered the top of Europe. Our team, which won 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal, became the European champion for the 6th time by collecting 152 points. Our national team surpassed Georgia, which took 2nd place, by 58 points. Armenia was third with 73 points.
Prior to this, Azerbaijan had been the strongest country on the continent in this type of wrestling in 2009, 2017, 2022, 2023 and 2025.
In Albania, our team achieved the best result of the last 17 years in terms of the quality of the medals. 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal is our best indicator in freestyle wrestling at the European Championship since 2009.
It should be reminded that Islam Bazarqanov (57 kilograms), Ali Tsokayev (92 kilograms) and Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kilograms) became European champions in Tirana. Turan Bayramov (74 kilograms) and Arseni Cioyev (86 kilograms) won silver medals, and Jabrayil Hajiyev (79 kilograms) won a bronze medal.
Thus, as in 2022 and 2025, Azerbaijan achieved a gold double by becoming the European champion in both Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling team standings.
