The career stage in Greece has ended for the volleyball player of the Azerbaijani national team, Polina Rahimova.
In an interview with Idman.Biz, the volleyball player assessed her performance in Panionios, shared her thoughts on the European Championship to be held at home as part of the Azerbaijani national team, and did not rule out that these games may be the last for her.
The attacker admitted that the season ended quite unexpectedly for Panionios. After winning the Super Cup and the Greek Cup, the team took third place in the regular championship, but lost to AEK in the first stage of the playoffs.
"We won the first game, then lost in the second and third games. We made a lot of mistakes in the decisive match, especially during passes in the fourth set. The final failure was a great disappointment for the club. However, the season was quite good, we won two titles," said P. Rahimova.
According to the volleyball player, a number of organizational problems prevented Panionios from performing more successfully.
"The head coach changed in the middle of the season, there was a rotation in the squad. A new binder was released before one of the important games, the team chemistry was not enough, and some players moved to other clubs. As for me personally, I was on the field until the end in almost every game. It is the first time in my memory that there was not even a substitute in my position, so I played in the main squad throughout the championship. In terms of efficiency, everything was in order, even in the matches we lost, my performance was high. Therefore, I cannot blame myself, I did my best. Of course, there was some disappointment, but life goes on. We need to move forward," added the attacker.
P. Rahimova is currently in Greece, where the final series continues. She then plans to return to Istanbul, followed by preparation for the European Championship as part of the national team. She did not rule out that the tournament could be her last games:
"If everything goes well, I plan to play in the European Championship. Time will tell what happens after that. Maybe these will be the last games in my career. Everything may end with this. Or, if there is a good offer, I will continue for another season. Then there will be a complete farewell. Because you also need to think about family and personal plans," concluded P. Rahimova.
