Azerbaijani table tennis player Nihad Mammadov's entry into the "Guinness Book of Records" will further increase interest in this sport.
The athlete stated that this result may change and be updated in the coming years.
"I think records are meant to be broken. This result may be updated in the future. Competition in sports brings development. But I am happy to have achieved this result now and I believe that this record will further increase interest in table tennis in Azerbaijan," he said in a statement to report.az.
N. Mammadov emphasized that the confirmation of the record was a very proud and unforgettable moment for him:
"The current success is based on long-term training, discipline and great effort. It is a special feeling for me to represent Azerbaijan at the level of the "Guinness Book of Records".
The table tennis player also spoke about his next goals:
"My main goal ahead is to further improve my results and to successfully represent Azerbaijan in the international arena. In addition, I want to increase interest in this sport and motivate young people."
It should be reminded that in April of this year, the member of the Azerbaijani national team tried to update the world record for entering the ball into the game from a long distance at the ceremony held at the "Shua Sports Complex". Under the supervision of officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Azerbaijan Table Tennis Federation and international category judge Zaur Mikayilov, he successfully performed this action from a distance of 18.20 meters.
It should be noted that the record in question (17.50 meters) last belonged to Osman Gurcu from Turkey.
