Former defender of the Russian CSKA football club and the USSR national team, Vladimir Ponomarev, proposed reducing the salaries of football players.
According to Lent.az, citing local media, Ponomarev proposed that the Russian Football Union set a salary for local football players of no more than $10,000 per month.
"Why is one million rubles not enough for them? They get crazy money at the age of 18 and don't know what to do with it," he explained his position.
The former football player recalled that during his career he received 300 rubles, and bought his Volga car for 6 thousand rubles. "It's okay, we somehow lived, traveled. Of course, it was almost impossible to save up for a car. And now they immediately buy any car. There is no such damn salary anywhere!" Ponomarev noted, and suggested that those who are dissatisfied go to the West for higher salaries: "I don't care if they are upset if their salaries are reduced."
