Russian UFC fighter, light heavyweight champion Islam Makhachev has expressed confidence in his victory over Irish Ian Machado Garry.
Sport.Biz reports that the 34-year-old athlete will use pressure, wrestling and physical exhaustion to gain an advantage over his opponent.
"I'm the best fighter in the world, but I want to be the greatest fighter in the history of this sport. I must defeat Ian Garry to break Anderson Silva's record. This won't just be my 17th win, it will be more than that.
Ian represents the new generation of this sport. He's hungry and wants to be a UFC champion. But I'm superior to him in every way. I'll show that in the fight. I'll put pressure on him, hold him, tire him out and finish the fight early. I'll defeat Ian Garry in three rounds at UFC 330," Makhachev said.
Makhachev is tied with Anderson Silva's record with 16 consecutive wins in the UFC. A victory over Garry will give the champion his 17th consecutive win and make him the sole owner of the record.
This match will be Makhachev's first title defense in the light heavyweight division. The UFC 330 tournament will take place on August 15 in Philadelphia, USA. The fight will take place on the night of August 16, Baku time.
