At least five climbers died on Victory Peak in Kyrgyzstan in August. Sport24.az, citing the Telegram channel SHOT, reports that the deadly mountain claimed the lives of two Russian, two Iranian, and one Italian climber.
First, the captain of the Russian mountaineering team, 66-year-old Nikolai Totmyanin, died. He climbed to the summit on August 10, but died the next day in the hospital from a heart attack.
On August 12, an Iranian couple, Maryam Pilehvari and Hasan Mashhadioglu, died. They climbed to the summit and met Natalia Nagovitsyna, who was ascending, during the descent. A few hours later, the Iranians died, and the Russian climber broke her leg and got stuck on the mountain ridge.
Natalia was climbing the mountain with Russian Roman, German Günter, and Italian Luka. Luka eventually refused to climb to the summit and waited for the group in a cave. Günter climbed to the summit alone and then returned to Luka. Later, only Roman joined them.
On August 13, Luka and Günter climbed up to Natalia and brought her a tent, sleeping bag, gas, and food. Roman went down alone and returned to base camp. However, the foreigners could not bring Natalia down and had to spend the night with her on the mountain. The weather conditions worsened completely. On August 14, Luka and Günter were also forced to leave Natalia there and go down. Luka suffered severe frostbite and died the next day from a brain hemorrhage.
It should be noted that Luka Sinigaglia, who died, climbed Khan-Tengri Peak with Natalia Nagovitsyna in 2021. At that time, Natalia's husband died. Natalia and Sergey helped the Italian climber to climb to the summit. Later, at an altitude of 6900 meters, Sergey suffered a stroke, raved at night, opened his safety ropes, and fell into the abyss and died. Luka did not forget this help, tried to save Natalia, but lost his own life.
Due to dangerous weather conditions, the bodies of the four climbers are not planned to be retrieved at this time. Moreover, only the location of the Russian woman and the Italian climber are currently known. Drone searches for the Iranians have not yielded any results.
