US President Donald Trump has announced that a new athletics competition will be held next year as part of the country's 250th anniversary.
Called "Patriot Games," this competition will be the first in US history and will last four days. The tournament will feature the strongest high school athletes, with one young boy and one young girl from each state and territory.
During his speech in the Oval Office, Trump specifically emphasized that there would be no mixed categories in the competitions.
He stated firmly that men would not compete in women's sports.
The "Freedom 250" organization, which implements official projects dedicated to the country's anniversary, is also involved in organizing the event.
According to the organization's statement, this competition will symbolically "light a torch" for future generations of Americans.
The venue for the competition and which sports will be included in the program have not yet been announced.
Democrats, comparing "Patriot Games" to "The Hunger Games" movie, have sharply criticized the project.
Other events planned for the 250th anniversary of the United States include a national prayer meeting, a parade of ships in New York Harbor, a Great American State Fair on the National Mall, and a spectacular fireworks display.
