President Ilham Aliyev emphasized the possibility of organizing rowing and canoe competitions at the Sarsang reservoir at an event dedicated to the sports results of 2025. Shortly after this speech, the President of the International Canoe Federation (ICF), Thomas Konietzko, and the President of the European Canoe Association (ECA), Jan Zungerana, who were on a visit to Azerbaijan, visited the Sarsang and Sugovushan reservoirs in Karabakh on March 12, as well as the "Kur" Olympic Training and Sports Center in Mingachevir.
Idman.Biz reports that the heads of international and European canoe organizations first inspected the Sarsang reservoir. The guests were given detailed information about the current situation at the reservoir. Thomas Konietzko and Jan Zungerana assessed the potential of the water basin for holding international competitions, world and European championships in Sarsang.
Later, the delegation visited the Sugovushan reservoir, where the "President's Cup" dedicated to the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the traditional "Mingachevir Regatta" international competitions have been held since 2022. The infrastructure rebuilt by our state in Sugovushan and the park built around the reservoir were highly appreciated by the guests.
In the afternoon, Thomas Konietzko and Jan Zungerana went to the "Kur" Olympic Training and Sports Center located in Mingachevir. After getting acquainted with the base, the heads of the international federation also watched the training of the national rowing and canoe teams.
