Winners of the First Day of the Azerbaijan Championship Announced - PHOTO

The Summer Azerbaijan Championship has started, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation.

Idman.biz reports that more than 160 athletes from the capital and various regions of the republic, including leading members of our national team, are competing in the Azerbaijan Championship.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Secretary General of the Federation Maharram Sultanzadeh and the Sector Manager of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Sevda Mirzayeva spoke about the importance of the competition, which plays an important role in the selection for prestigious international tournaments, and wished the athletes success.

The competition is important in terms of collecting rating points for licenses for the World Championship and the Islamic Solidarity Games, selection for the European Team Championship and the Balkan Championship. On the first day of the championship, Alham Nagiyev and Lamiya Valiyeva in the 100 meters, Novuz Asadli and Ilaha Guliyeva in the 400 meters, Bakhtiyar Asgarli and Anna Yusupova in the 1500 meters, Laman Isfandiyarova in the 100 meters hurdles, and Amrah Nagiyev in the 3000 meters steeplechase became the champions of Azerbaijan, respectively, among men and women.

Rustam Mammadov and Ekaterina Sariyeva in the triple jump, Alakbar Asgarov and Zeynabb Gambarova in the high jump, Jabir Aliyev in the pole vault, Ismail Aliyev and Sakina Hajizadeh in the shot put, Orkhan Gasimov and Irada Aliyeva rose to the highest step of the podium.
