Today, March 25, the World Figure Skating Championship starts.
Idman.Biz reports that Azerbaijan is represented in the competition by four athletes: Nargiz Suleymanova and Vladimir Litvintsev in singles, as well as Samantha Ritter and Daniel Brikalov in ice dancing.
On the first day of the competition, women and pairs will present their short programs. Suleymanova will be the second to take the ice. Her short program is set to the music of "Shallow." The figure skater plans to perform a triple lutz and triple toe loop combination, a triple loop, and a double axel in her program. Her best result in the short program in her career was recorded at the ISU CS Golden Spin of Zagreb tournament in the 2025/2026 season - 56.07 points.
To qualify for the free skate (March 27), Nargiz must be in the top 24 based on the results of the short program. In total, 33 athletes are participating in the women's competition.
This is Suleymanova's second World Championship. She failed to qualify for the free skate last season (2024/2025). The Azerbaijani athlete lost to her Lithuanian rival Mede Varyakayte by only 0.01 points, scoring 50.97 points and finishing 25th, remaining outside the next stage. That result meant she was one step away from qualifying for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
It should be noted that Vladimir Litvintsev will perform in the short program on March 26. On March 27, Samantha Ritter and Daniel Brikalov will take the ice with their rhythmic dance program.
