The incredible acceleration of Ferrari-powered cars at the start of pre-season Formula 1 testing has alarmed the entire paddock.
Idman.Biz reports that while the abolition of the MGU-H system under the new engine regulations has created problems at the start for many teams, the Italian engineers have managed to emerge victorious from this situation. Drivers can no longer pre-charge the turbo before the start, and this process takes up to 10 seconds. This creates both safety risks and increases the likelihood of the cars stalling.
Unlike its rivals, Ferrari has developed a smaller turbo, which allows the engine to reach the required revs more quickly. As a result, both the main Italian team and Haas and Cadillac, which use their engines, are well ahead of their rivals in start tests. For example, Lewis Hamilton starting from fifth on the grid and entering the first corner as leader during testing is a clear example of this advantage.
The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) is preparing to change the starting procedure after complaints from rivals. However, Ferrari is unhappy with this decision, as the official bodies did not attach importance to it when they raised this issue last year.
