Cameroon and Russian football club "Spartak" defender Christopher Vu has commented on his unusual mistake in the match against "Akhat".
Sport.Biz reports that the incident occurred at the beginning of the match in Grozny in the second round of the Russian Premier League.
Goalkeeper Alexander Maksimenko passed the ball to Vu after a goal kick. The Cameroonian defender, not realizing that the ball had already been put into play, picked it up with his hand in the penalty area. The referee awarded a penalty to "Spartak" for this episode. Egaş Kasintura accurately scored the penalty in the fifth minute.
Vu scored a goal in the 39th minute to equalize the score. Ezekiel Barco also distinguished himself with a penalty kick in the 90+1 minute, securing a 2:1 victory for "Spartak".
"Such things happen in football, mistakes occur. This should be taken into account in the future. During training, I adjust the ball with my hand when building a game from the goal. This cannot be done in official matches, and I will keep this in mind from now on", - Vu said.
