UEFA Vice-President Laura McAllister has stated the importance of having an opposition candidate in the upcoming FIFA presidential elections.
Sport.Biz reports that last week, FIFA announced plans to create a new commercial structure, FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), for the sale of tournament rights. Infantino later abandoned the idea amid criticism from football confederations and the threat of a World Cup boycott by UEFA member countries.
Amid the controversy, several national associations have withdrawn or plan to withdraw their letters of support for Infantino's candidacy before the next FIFA elections, scheduled for March 2027. If the Swiss does not resign, UEFA, AFC, and CONCACAF plan to "paralyze" FIFA.
"I think we need to find a candidate to run against Infantino now. It is crucial that this candidate can unite the opposition against him around the world," McAllister told talkSPORT.
