UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin commented on the issue of a congested match schedule in professional football. Sport24.az reports that the head of the supreme football body said that they are constantly caught between the conflicting demands of various parties:
"We are currently at the limit of the maximum number of games that can be played during the season. The summer break, when there are no international tournaments for national teams, lasts only three weeks. Some people want us to reduce the number of international games. But in England, there are two national cup tournaments. They don't want to give up any of those tournaments."
According to Čeferin, there are also clubs and associations that want to increase the number of games, because this leads to an increase in revenue. In this situation, UEFA is forced to look for compromise solutions:
"Some parties want us to hold more games in order to earn more revenue. We, on the other hand, have to play the role of mediator, being caught between these two parties. The number of games is a problem. Although the health of the players is better protected today than in the past. This is ensured by the activity of more prepared and qualified personnel."
