UEFA does not intend to change its position regarding the participation of Russian teams in international competitions, despite the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Sport24.az reports that RTE reported on this.
Some time ago, the IOC announced the lifting of sanctions against young Russian and Belarusian athletes participating in individual and team sports, and demanded that they be allowed to participate in international competitions under their national flags and anthems.
However, senior UEFA officials believe that Russia can only return to the world stage after a peace agreement is signed regarding the military conflict in Ukraine.
It should be noted that Russian teams were excluded from international competitions held under the flags of FIFA and UEFA in 2022 for political reasons.
