Tyler Fletcher, a midfielder for the English football club Manchester United, has been added to Scotland's squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Idman.Biz reports that the 19-year-old footballer will replace Billy Gilmour, who will miss the tournament due to injury. The Napoli midfielder injured his knee in the first half of Scotland's 4-1 friendly win over Curaçao.
Fletcher made his debut for the Scottish national team in the game against Curaçao. He came on as a substitute after the break. Interestingly, the young midfielder has only played two games for Manchester United's first team. The footballer has been on the pitch for a total of 17 minutes in the Premier League.
Tyler Fletcher is the son of former Manchester United and Scotland footballer Darren Fletcher. Head coach Steve Clarke values him as a backup option for defensive midfield, central midfield, and attacking midfield positions.
The Scotland national team will travel to the USA in the coming days. The team will play their last friendly match before the World Cup against Bolivia on June 6. Steve Clarke's team will compete in the same group as Haiti, Morocco, and Brazil at the World Cup.
